David Benavidez Aiming High With Message To Mike Tyson After Triumph After securing a victory over his long time rival Ronald Ellis on Saturday night, super middleweight world champion David Benavidez had a message for none other than Mike Tyson—aim high. The 24-year-old Arizona native, Benavidez, was victorious on Saturday, beating Ellis by unanimous decision in a 12-round affair at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Following the match, Benavidez spoke with reporters and revealed his message to Tyson: “I said man, Mike Tyson height I want you to help me get there.” He further noted that he was inspired by the legendary boxer and wants to reach the same level Tyson once held in the boxing world. Benavidez, who now holds a 27-0 record with 18 knockouts, spoke about aiming high and doing big things in order for him to reach the same heights that Mike Tyson has over the years. He’s motivated to prove that he can be one of the best in the boxing world, silently making a plea to Tyson as he said, “I want to get to that level. I want to one day be in that conversation where they’re talking about me on the level of Mike Tyson.” Although Benavidez was victorious on Saturday night, he noted that he still has a long way to go and he’s not going to rest until he’s able to reach the heights of his childhood hero. He said, “It’s a process, it takes time, but I will get there. I will be on that level one day.” David Benavidez is surely aiming high and his message to Mike Tyson couldn’t have been clearer. After his 12-round win on Saturday night, Benavidez is hopeful that Tyson will hear his message, adding that he was inspired by the legendary boxer and wants to reach the heights that Tyson has reached in the boxing world.
