"X-Men Origins: Wolverine" Article Liev Schreiber Discusses His Decision to Not Return as Sabertooth for "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" Fans of the X-Men have been anticipating the return of Sabertooth, played by Liev Schreiber, in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine". Unfortunately, Schreiber took to the public to explain his decision not to return for the second installment of the franchise. Schreiber had a lot to say about the pressure of living up to the character of Sabertooth and the rigorous training needed to portray the physicality of the part. He noted that the demands of matching the height and build of Sabertooth, along with the production timeline of the film, put quite a strain on him. "I was so tired at the end of 'X-Men' from having to beef up and get close to the Liev Schreiber height of Sabertooth. I didn't have the appetite for it," Schreiber shared. His personal decision not to return for the film was influenced by the responsibility of playing the part that fans had become so attached to. All of the other members of the cast did return for the film, with Hugh Jackman reprising his role as Wolverine in the iconic climatic battle with Sabertooth. It seems fans will have to speculate on Schreiber's take on the character of Sabertooth and the challenges that came with trying to live up to the physicality of the part. But regardless of his absence, the film was still a success, and it seems Schreiber's decision was the right one.
